Structural Engineers analyses the statistical properties of all types of structures, test the behavior and durability of materials used in their construction and designs and supervises the construction of all types of structures.  Entry-level structural engineers may design the individual structural elements of a structure, such as the beams and columns of a building. More experienced engineers may be responsible for the structural design and integrity of an entire system such as a building.   

Structural Engineer is under the Civil Engineer professionals. They often specialize in particular types of structures, such as buildings, bridges, pipelines, industrial, tunnels, vehicles, ships, aircraft, and spacecraft. Structural engineers who specialize in buildings often specialize in particular construction materials such as concrete, steel, wood, masonry, alloys, composites, and may focus on particular types of buildings such as offices, schools, hospitals and so forth. 

 

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: 

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is usually required. Relevant experience or on-the-job training is also needed. Registration or licensing may also be required.
  2. Knowledge in Engineering Technology, Building and Construction, Mathematics, Design and English Language rate as the most important areas
  3. The skills workers rate as most important are in Critical Thinking, Reading Comprehension, Active Listening, Complex Problem Solving, and Mathematics
  4. The physical and social abilities workers rate as the most important are: Deductive Reasoning, Inductive Reasoning, Information Ordering, Oral Comprehension, and Oral Expression
